Food for Thought Monthly Update

April was a quieter month across our Food for Thought partner schools as many schools entered their term break and rising temperatures began affecting crop production. While harvests were smaller than previous months, students and teachers continued caring for projects and preparing for the next growing season.

Together, schools produced 58.3 kg of food. 2 kg supported school meals, while 56.3 kg was sold, generating over ฿3,200 to reinvest into future harvests. Students also contributed 139 hours maintaining mushroom houses, gardens, and school farms.

Ban Huay Som (Chiang Mai) recorded the largest mushroom harvest this month with 12 kg, while Kiew Lae Luang (Chiang Mai)continued generating income through both mushroom and egg production. Several newer projects, including Thung Sieo (Chiang Mai), Ruam Thai (Kui Buri), and Wang Sri (Chiang Mai), spent the month preparing for their first harvests.

April also highlighted some of the seasonal challenges that come with agriculture. Several schools paused activities during the school holidays, while others experienced lower mushroom yields due to the heat. Even during quieter months, schools continue maintaining their projects so they are ready when growing conditions improve.

With the rainy season approaching, many schools are now entering a new stage of the growing cycle. We look forward to seeing these gardens and mushroom houses become more productive in the months ahead!
